As market women in many parts of the country complained about low patronage during last year's Christmas, the services of prostitutes seemed to have been on high demand, prompting a 30 percent increment in charges during the period.
The 24th, 25th, 26th and 31st December could be dubbed “harvest days” for some prostitutes who plied their trade at popular whore joints at Tema Communities Seven and Eight.
The new charges did not go for a full night, as according to the prostitutes who the Weekend Finder interacted with, they wanted to make more money in 'short time' to enable them rest and rejuvenate their bodies for other 'special duties'.
Engaging a prostitute in Tema during the period, a sexually active man paid a fee of GH₵26, instead of the usual GH₵20 for just three hours in any decent hotel or guest house at the expense of the client.
The prostitutes described the new charge as a reasonable fee for their clients whom they claimed received three hours of good and active sexual treat.
Some of the prostitutes; Roselyn, Sharon and Louisa, aged between 24 and 26 years, said the new charge was agreed upon by the majority of ladies in the trade.
According to them, the increment was based on a classification of beauty, smartness and years of service and experience, with one of them remarking, “Any prostitute within the class who charged less than the agreed amount would be charged for dishonesty should the entire group get to know later”.
